I planted three large limelight hydrangeas less than two weeks ago. All three are turning brown and dying. They get morning sun and some filtered afternoon sun. They have not lacked for water. How do I identify root rot? There is a clay "shelf" that begins about 1.5ft down. The dirt that they are planted in is very good, and I tried to break up as much clay around it as I could, but I'm wondering if that is causing the problem.
